Toronto-based producer, radio host, promoter, and DJ, Ciel (Cindy LI) wears many hats, but one thing is clear: she is one of underground dance music’s most promising breakout stars. In recent years she has been active on the Toronto scene, promoting her party Work in Progress, as well as co-founding the collective It’s Not U It’s Me and the label Parallel Minds. Globally she has made a name for herself stunning crowds with her eclectic DJ sets, highlighting both melody and blistering percussion with her signature technique and light touch. As of late, Ciel’s skill as a producer has taken centre stage. A classically trained pianist, she has produced four dreamy and dancefloor-ready EPs to critical acclaim, Electrical Encounters, Hundred Flowers, Why Me?, and Trojan Horse. She has also recently released collaborative EPs with fellow Canadian producers D. Tiffany and Dan Only as Psychedelic Budz and Cloudsteppers, respectively. Whether collaborating or flying solo Ciel combines wistful New Age with a diverse array of samples and a heavy dose of bass to produce music for both mind and body.
