David August + MFO^IT+DE

With almost fifteen years of experience, composer and producer David August continues a deep creative exploration that has taken him from the club to the orchestra and from solo creation to collaboration and interdiscipline.

The warm sound of his early releases, close to house and ambient techno, but also to jazz and more classic and organic sounds, catapulted him to global acclaim, making him a household name on dance floors and at festivals such as Sónar, Primavera or Montreux Jazz between 2015 and 2020. Looking ahead to the new decade, David August's creative expansion has been absolute, both at the head of his 99CHANTS label, where he has published artists such as Bunita Marcus✝, Leena Platonos, Yu Su and Giulio Aldinucci, as well as a producer. VĪS, his most recent album and the result of a five-year process, contains a fascinating balance between experimentation, narrative and emotion.

VĪS is Latin for energy, strength. From there, David imagines alternating narratives between the past and utopian futures, between metaphysics and nature, creating the space in which the producer unleashes a surprising sonic palette that reflects his classical training, his experimental drive and his sensitivity to transmute sounds into stories of deep emotional impact. As part of the long development of VĪS, David collaborated with artists from other disciplines, such as Hiba Baddou, with whom he developed the iconography and the imaginary alphabet used on the album, and the collective Egozen, who developed the digital and interactive counterpart.

With a balanced mix of new media and old technology, Marcel Weber aka MFO builds complex visual environments. Analogue projectors, celluloid, mirrors, paint, chemicals and digital alchemy: since 2001 MFO has been merging images, light and space into powerful visual concepts for live A/V's, stage sets, video art and installations.

With his live sets and installations, MFO has become a key element of the experience at avant-garde festivals such as CTM, MUTEK, Unsound and as part of the Berlin Atonal team, where he directs lights and visuals. His deep and evocative style has also been part of exhibitions in spaces such as The Barbican, Center Pompidou and CERN.

His recent projects include This too will pass with Lyra Pramuk, KISTVAEN with Roly Porter & Mary-Anne Roberts, and art and visual design for the showcases of the Light Years label with Caterina Barbieri and Bendik Giske, among others.

For Edition 20, David August + MFO will develop a performance commissioned by MUTEK MX, in which both artists will connect the sounds and ethos of VĪS with the history and energy of the location.
