Leslie GarcíaMX
With an extensive and consistent career, Leslie García has established herself as a brilliant force of experimentation, both in Mexico and globally, whether through Dream.Addictive, Astrovandalistas, and Interspecifics—the collectives that have marked her trajectory—or through her profound exploration of electronic music as Microhm.
After releasing numerous albums and EPs under the pseudonym Microhm and as a duo with Paloma López as Logar Decay, 2025 marks the beginning of a new era with Animistic Resonance, her first release signed under her own name, Leslie García. This release, crafted between 2022 and 2024, is a turning point in her exploration of sound as language: a counterpoint to the classic ambient music formats.
Minimalist structures, deep listening strategies, and experimentation with electronic sound: Animistic Resonance is experienced as a meditation, a sonic landscape formed by temporal tension and ambiguous perceptions.
With a career that has traversed the various extremes of sonic perception and the creative interaction between the human and the non-human, Leslie García has delivered a complex body of work rooted in interdisciplinarity, innovation, and a curiosity for scientific experimentation.
Both her collaborative and solo projects result in multisensory experiences in which sound design and technological interaction transform space into a unique sonic universe.
This has led her to release music on labels such as Static Discos, Detroit Underground, and LOWMUTE, as well as to develop her creativity in galleries, listening spaces, and artist residencies in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
In April, she inaugurated Leslie García and the Sun Ra Archive: Spectres of Saturn, a commission for the Sound Experimentation Space at MUAC-UNAM, for which she developed an intervention using synthesizers, AI, and electronic processes on an archive of over 600 tapes and cassettes by the avant-garde jazz musician Sun Ra. The exhibition closes on September 28. As part of Interspecifics, she is currently a DAAD Sound and Music Fellow in Berlin, a research fellowship that allows him to focus on upcoming projects emphasizing the relationship between mind, matter, and magic, with sound as the fundamental interface of the universe.
As a prelude to Autechre's performance at MUTEK MX 21, Leslie will presentAnimistic Resonance, an original live performance inspired by his upcoming release on the Umor Rex label.
