With Borde, a live audiovisual production commissioned by MUTEK México, Lyos XS & San Joserra immerse us in the experience of inhabiting urban margins through a tectonic and atmospheric soundscape, alongside visuals generated from historical archives, field images, and local datasets reinterpreted with AI.

Science fiction no longer exists in the Global South: what appears as dystopia in the North is experienced here as the present. Ecatepec, with its saturation, inequality, and resilience, condenses these conditions.

The visual language of Borde, created by San Joserra, draws on multiple sources: topographies derived from digital data, historical archive images, photographic records, and basic 3D volumes, reinterpreted using AI trained with historical and field materials.

For San Joserra, training models with archives from Ecatepec becomes technological archaeology: a process to demonstrate how the territory is translated, deformed, and transformed into myth by algorithmic vision. The objective is not to illustrate or document, but to open a speculative space where the territory appears as an organism in tension.

With field recordings made in the Sierra de Guadalupe and in urban areas of Ecatepec, Lyo XS interweaves the echoes of the natural landscape and the sounds of the city's periphery with synthesis and sound design, evoking the emotional tensions of territories traversed by systematic violence, but also by the presence of an untamed and, at times, serene nature.

A sound archive that combines layers of ambient, noise, IDM, and the low end of bass, inviting us to listen to the periphery as a space of precariousness, but also of humanity, memory, and possibility.

Lyo XS is a producer and DJ originally from Ecatepec, active since 2015. Drawing on bass, broken techno, Latin club, breaks, and ambient, she creates her own rhythmic language in both her sets and her productions. His most recent EP, Teyolia (Infinite Machine, 2025), reflects this formal exploration.

San Joserra is a multimedia artist originally from Veracruz. His practice unfolds between electronic and dissident music scenes, focusing on the digital image as a space of tension between simulation, archive, and affect. He works with CGI, artificial intelligence, and live visuals.

Borde, his first collaboration, was developed over the summer as one of the projects commissioned by MUTEK Mexico this year and will have its world premiere on October 10.
