Portrait XO's explorations as a transdisciplinary artist, musician, researcher, and data activist converge in a direct dialogue with technology and artificial intelligence. Pieces, performances, and workshops invite us to question ideas and emotions triggered by human-machine collaboration; to look beyond the status quo discourse and expand possibilities through play, complex questions, a dose of critical thinking, and another dose of curiosity.
Over the past five years, Portrait XO has intensified her research into artificial intelligence with versatility and strength: in 2020, she won the Eurovision AI Song Contest, and since 2023, she has held residencies at venues such as the NEW NOW Festival, BBA Gallery, and Factory Berlin.
In 2022, she released her first audiovisual album through her label-collective, Sound Obsessed. 'WIRE' began as a scientific experiment that transformed into an intimate reflection on how inspiration arises when producing in conjunction with the other self of artificial intelligence.
With "The Cost of Connection," his debut performance at MUTEK Mexico, Portrait XO reconfigures a century of information accumulated through the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into a speculative sonic landscape. "Expect to hear what data like unemployment rates, anxiety disorders, and global temperature anomalies sound like," he explains of this piece, which also critiques biases in AI and its impact on creativity, identity, and technology.
