With an audiovisual signature of clinical precision, based on austerity, deconstruction and forcefulness, Alva Noto's methodology as an experimentalist is based mainly on constant research in the field of sound and color, and on collaboration. The iconic and long-lasting creative alliance he had with Ryuichi Sakamoto✝ or Diamond Version, his project with Byetone, are just a couple of notable collaborations from an amazing list that, for more than two decades, has diversified with artists such as Blixa Bargeld, Stephen O'Malley, Alan Moor of the Ex, Iggy Pop, Mika Vainio✝ and Kyoka.

Alva Noto has continued on the crest of the wave as one of the most surprising audiovisual creators, in a career that has developed in parallel to the festival and that we have witnessed at key moments: in 2008 (Edition 5), during one of the most exciting stages of minimal techno, IDM and Raster-Noton as a label; in 2013 (Edition 10) as Diamond Version and in 2017 (Edition 14), with the impressive audiovisual display of his UNIEQAV performance in the Auditorio BlackBerry.

Thus, Alva Noto becomes an essential artist for the twentieth anniversary of MUTEK México. A return to reconnect with the followers who have accompanied his career with interest and curiosity, and a moment of expansion and surprise for new audiences who are just discovering his legacy. Glitch, micro sounds, and precise beats inspired by codes and logic systems: much of the minimal and IDM sound that inspires us originated in the mind of alva noto.

For the first Edition of MUTEK MX, in 2003, Caster Nikolai began to establish himself as one of the audiovisual artists at the forefront of innovation at a global level, with his alias alva noto, as Cyclo alongside Ryoj Ikeda, and as co-founder of the iconic Raster-Noton label.

MUTEK MX acknowledges the support of the Goethe Institut.
