Masterclass / Workshop
The masterclass consists of explaining to the participants technologies that can be used to create art from sensors, methodologies to use them and explanation of processes such as data sonification, at the end it will be explained through TouchDesigner step by step how to connect a sensor of movement so that you understand the possibilities of using sensors in your art projects, this will be without explaining any line of code, so no programming knowledge is required.
Syllabus:
- Music history with EEG (electroencephalography)
- Current technologies
- Explanation of the data sonification process
- Explanation of the MDAP project
- Samples of participants and previews
- TouchDesigner class to use motion sensor and generate interactive visuals
Approximate time: 3-4 hours
Exhibition
Introspective experience of music and visuals generated from biofeedback:
The goal is for participants to have the immersive experience of listening to music and visuals generated from their own brain waves, heart rate, breathing rate, and body movement. The result is generated from sensors that the user will use where their data will be converted into sound and visual information in which they can interact to listen and see their own symphony.
Audiovisual Performance
Presentation of the MDAP project, where a real-time performance of visuals and music generated from brain waves, heart rhythm, breathing rhythm and body movement is made.
Approximate time: 20-30 minutes
Mario D. Alvarado (MDAP) is an engineer and creative producer with experience in hybrid projects that combine experimental practices with high technology in neurology, musical composition and audiovisual performance. MDAP has toured Mexico, Germany, Holland, Spain, the United States, and its last presentation in Italy, Venice, was at the opening of Pavilion 0/4 “Beyond Code and Time” organized by Mediations Biennale. The objective of the MDAP project is to focus on music therapy and its effects on the participants who use it, giving rise to meditation, mindfulness and technology with the sound textures generated by the body of each person.
