Florence ToUK
Florence To is an artist who finds installation work the ideal platform for her multiple lines of research and experimentation. Born in Scotland and originally specializing in textiles and tailoring, she merged her skills with digital technologies in 2011 to develop installations in underground and disused spaces, leveraging their flaws as an advantage. Working in several disparate architectural environments, she guided her process toward exploring the effects of cognitive and emotional triggers and how different sensory dispositions are experienced within the space.
With space, light, and sound as primary elements, in each project Florence interprets vibrational information through psychoacoustics, neuroscience, and computational processes to construct an audiovisual language capable of modifying an architectural environment and triggering specific cognitive and emotional responses.
Florence To's installations have been presented at international festivals and galleries such as Unsound, TodaysArt, Berlin Atonal, CTM, and MUTEK Mexico, with her unforgettable collaborations with sound artist Kazuya Nagaya (2018) and Rafael Anton Irissari (2022).
